THE VKGI TEACHING CHAMPIONS
THE VKGI TEACHING CHAMPIONS
“Children must be taught how to think, but not what to think”
- Margaret Mead
VKGI Learning Centre is an integrated service unit that supports teachers, teacher educators, educational administrators, pedagogical leaders and academic units in their teaching and learning processes. The Goal of the Learning Centre is to address the needs and enhance the competency of our teachers to align them with new age educational practices. Keeping this in mind, our training’s focal point was to ensure teachers are embarking on a learning journey right from understanding the learner, to implementing a variety of teaching-learning strategies. We support and calibrate those who are committed to deliver innovative, inclusive and reflective teaching and learning approaches that create effective and engaging learning experiences for students.
The NEP envisages professional development of teachers in order to make them as continuous learners, as teachers have limited scope to influence the curriculum, their real skill lies in choosing appropriate methodology and meaningful and engaging instructional activities to help the students to attain the prescribed learning outcomes. The VKGI - Learning Centre provides these skills to teachers in order to inculcate Innovative teaching methods in enhancing the teaching and learning process, which will create a positive impact on the school community.
The Learning Centre was all set and started off the training sessions to enable the teachers to explore new methods to keep their classroom and curriculum meaningful, exciting and highly participatory. The teachers were encouraged to actively take part in the professional development program, learning new ways of teaching in alignment with the new NEP.
As the academic session 2021-2022 began, the Learning Centre has been instrumental in conducting 18 training program for teachers from April 2021. The sessions enhanced the competency of teachers in understanding the students, the teaching, learning and assessment process categorically. The training sessions improved the teacher’s potential in designing an impactful lesson plan for an effective classroom practice focusing on the holistic development of the students.
A glimpse of the sessions conducted during the months of April 2021 and May 2021 are shown in the pictures.
Handholding support through On-the-job Training:
Analysis of the lesson plan and preparation of sample lesson plans -
LC team analysed 61 out of 89 lesson plans submitted in the month of June and feedback was given. As the prepared lesson plans did not align with parameters given, the Learning Centre team prepared six sample lesson plans with the support of the mentors and the same was shared with the teachers.
The teachers’ performance was monitored through informal and formal lesson observations, followed by individual feedback sessions with descriptive reports suggesting the areas of improvement. The Learning Centre team observed the lesson presentation and prepared reports for 159 teachers in the month of August and September-2021.
Technology embedded instructional activities:
Technology embedded instructional activities:
The teachers were trained to get equipped with various technological tools and online classroom activities that can be applied in their teaching, learning and assessment process. The online tools also helped the teachers to improve their classroom management skills.
The training sessions focused on enabling teachers to use technological tools like Jamboard, Kahoot, Vocaroo, Padlet, Wizer, Mentimeter, online graphic organizers, online warm-up activities, and the list continues. The online tools were appealing to the students of different learning styles, increased participation and made the learning process easier.

Sharing of best practices:
Sharing good practice builds a teacher's reputation as a transformational leader and increases their professional value. sharing lets other teachers discover it for themselves in a way that helps them to raise their own level of expertise. During the months of September and October 61 teachers shared their best practices / classroom experiences. We found collaboration between experienced teachers and freshers as a powerful professional development activity that can help teachers improve their subject knowledge, think about teaching strategies in different ways and learn new ideas to try in the classroom.

VKGI Learning Centre conducts a staff wellness programme on every last Friday of the month. As a part of the wellness programme, sessions on Mindful Cooking; Yoga and Holistic Wellbeing - Balanced Diet & Nutrition were conducted by expertise in those areas that made an impact on the teachers to think about self, spend some me-time and focus on their wellbeing too during these stressful and challenging times.
