In November 2024, 48 585 new vehicles were sold in South Africa, with 35 101 (81.2%) of the total sales figure representing passenger-car sales. Compared to November 2023’s figure of 29 252, that’s an increase of 20% (or 5 849 units). This also represented the strongest sales performance in the past 20 months!

- Toyota Starlet — 1 238
- Chery Tiggo 4 Pro/Volkswagen Polo — 1 191

- Suzuki Fronx — 888
As you may have noticed, SA’s top three best-selling automakers each have two models in the top 10. From the Toyota stable, the Corolla Cross, which again claimed second spot, registered 2 655 (up by 551 compared to October 2024) units. The Starlet hatch, the company’s second-best-selling passenger car in November 2024, registered a sales figure of 1 238, slightly less than in October 2024.

The VW Polo Vivo took the top spot, with 2 999 units (up 707 compared to October 2024) sold, while those with a keen eye will notice the Polo, which placed third in October 2024 with 1 782 units sold, shares sixth place with the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, which moved up from eighth place (October 2024).

The Swift and Fronx lead Suzuki’s local sales, with the former, no doubt owing to the release of the new generation, jumping from sixth to third spot, thanks to an increase of nearly 600 units. The Fronx, however, moved down a few spots — from seventh (October 2024) to 10th (November 2024).
But what other changes, compared to October 2024, were there in November 2024? Compared to the former month, in the second to last month of 2024, the Toyota Fortuner, which placed 10th in October 2024, was the 11th best-selling passenger car in SA, just missing out on the top 10 by a mere 16 units. The Renault Kwid, which occupied the ninth spot in October 2024, dropped to 14th place, with the French firm’s budget hatch recording a sales figure of 692.
