It is increases across the board for fuel prices ahead of the festive season. Here is how much more it will cost to refuel in December 2024.

Set to go into effect from the 4th of December, the diesel and petrol fuel prices are representing a duel increase. The Department of Mineral Energy and Resources has added that the monthly fuel prices are adjusted and informed by international and local factors. Since South Africa is a net importer of both crude oil and finished products at a price set at an international level, much of these increases can be accredited to crude oil and international petroleum product prices being based in USD. This has all been exacerbated by a slightly depreciated Rand against the US Dollar (from R17.53 to R17.93 per USD), which offset Brent Crude oil price decreases from 73.28 US Dollars (USD) to 72.70 USD during the period under review.
Both grades of petrol will see a 17 cents increase while 500 ppm diesel will see a more significant increase of 55 cents. 50 ppm diesel will represent the most significant increase in the month at 56 cents. Here is how much fuel will cost for December.

- Inland Petrol Unleaded 93 – R21.15 (up from R20.98)
- Inland Petrol Unleaded 95 – R21.47 (up from R21.30)
- Coastal Petrol Unleaded 93 – R20.36 (up from R20.19)
- Coastal Petrol Unleaded 95 – R20.68 (up from R20.51)
- Inland Diesel 500 ppm – R19.21 (up from R18.66)
- Inland Diesel 50 ppm – R19.33 (up from R18.77)
- Coastal Diesel 500 ppm – R18.42 (up from R17.87)
- Coastal Diesel 50 ppm – R18.57 (up from R18.01)
Furthermore, the Regulatory Accounts System (RAS) of the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy has approved a net increase of 15.4 c/l in the annual margin adjustments on petrol and a net increase of 8.88 c/l on diesel and illuminating paraffin wholesale prices, with effect from 04 December 2024. The Slate Levy on petrol and diesel will however remain at 0.00 c/l with effect from 04 December 2024.
