The outgoing GR Yaris is known for its compact yet powerful 1.6-litre turbo-triple, which, Toyota claims, is the world’s most powerful three-cylinder engine. Endowed with 198 kW and 360 N.m of torque, the GR Yaris accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds, before topping out at 230 km/h. Paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, it has earned its reputation as a driver’s car with rally-inspired performance.
The GR Yaris has received significant updates. The turbocharged 1.6-litre engine has been upgraded with lightweight pistons, improved direct injection pressure and optimised mapping, resulting in increased outputs of 210 kW and 400 N.m. A new single-clutch Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) replaces the manual gearbox. The vehicle also benefits from Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and a limited-slip differential for improved handling.
